Companies House and Online Credit/Debit Card Security

Why have you changed your card payment process?
These changes have been introduced by Visa and MasterCard and gives you enhanced payment protection when paying for goods and services online. Companies House is one of a number of organisations providing this added security for it’s customers to give you peace of mind when paying over the internet and will become increasingly common.

How does the process work?
You only need to register with Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode once to create your password for each of your payment cards. Then whenever you visit Companies House WebCHeck or WebFiling service, (and payment is required) using your registered cards you will be asked to enter the relevant password as an additional security validation before the order is confirmed.

How do I register for this added security, or find out if these changes affect me?
To register with Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode you need to find out if your card issuer is participating with these additional security measures. This can either be done by contacting your card issuer directly, or by visiting the following web sites:

What if I am already registered?
If you have already registered you just need to enter your personal Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode into the screen when prompted to do so by your card issuer on the payment page.

What should I do if I have forgotten my password?
If you have forgotten your password, please click on the forgotten password link which will be displayed on the card issuers’ screen after the payment page.

Who should I contact in Companies House if I am having problems with this?
Unfortunately Companies House will be unable to answer customer questions other than those as detailed above. All queries relating to Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode should be made to the directly to your card issuer.

How do I pay for CH Services using a Corporate Card? (for WebFiling and WebCHeck)
If you are paying for your Companies House service by using a Corporate Credit/Debit Card, you should ask the Card Holder to register for 3D. This is because the Card Issuer/Bank will ask for the date of birth of the Card Holder. Failure to supply this information at registration may prevent you from registering for 3D Secure and you may not complete the payment process.

What happens to my Annual Return if I do not successfully register for 3D during the submission and payment of my document? (WebFiling only)
If you experience payment problems during the submission of your Annual Return, you will receive an e-mail from us advising you there was a problem. This email contains a telephone number for you to ring to complete the payment process and register your Annual Return. You can register separately for 3D Secure by logging onto your respective Card Issuer’s web site.
