For non Sterling accounts the XBRL taxonomy has a rule that the field 'foreignExchangeRate' must be completed. If accounts include transactions denominated in a currency other than the base currency in which they are denominated, there is a requirement in the Companies Act that explanation of the exchange rates used in translating such transactions must be provided in the Notes to the accounts. It is common practice to provide this information in the 'Accounting policies' note rather in the specific ForeignExchageRate' element because it is very unlikely that the same exchange rate will apply to all of the foreign currency transactions. A number of large Accounts software providers have requested that this rule be removed. |
