Companies House

Free Public Data Product

In November 2011, the Government announced that Companies House is to be part of a Public Data Group of trading funds. The group will seek to maximise the value of their data for long-term economic and social benefit, including through the release of data free of charge. These aims fit well with Companies House’s existing strategy, to make more information available for free where possible and a new Free Public Data Product is now available to provide basic company information free of charge.

What is it?

The product is a downloadable data snapshot, updated monthly and containing basic company data of live companies on the Register. It is provided as ZIP files containing data in CSV format that is split into multiple files for ease of downloading.

What information does it contain?

The information made available includes; the company number, address, status, incorporation date, account and annual return filing dates, SIC code, URI and basic information about mortgage charges.

Will it be supported?

There will be no ongoing support for this product. Companies House will not be providing advice or support on the data or its manipulation. The product is available with no charge. The information is basic company information that is already available free of charge for individual companies on our web services. It is not current information, but a snapshot of the database which is updated monthly.
